The
Cunard Queen Elizabeth
which debuted on the 11th of October 2010 represents the second largest ship ever built in the company’s history. The 92,400 tons vessel is capable of carrying a total of 2092 passengers.
The vessel, which was built at the Monfalcone shipyard near Trieste, has a very similar design to its sister ship the Queen Victoria.
The ship design offers a retro look characteristic of previous Cunard Queens vessels like the original Elizabeth launched in 1938. The vessel contains a range of different art exhibits, memorabilia and photos to pay homage to the tradition of the line. One of the most notable features of the ship is the Queen’s room. This room, a common feature in the rest of the Cunard vessels, plays host to a myriad of activities as diverse as fencing lessons or white-glove tea. Without a shadow of a doubt the most eye catching element of this room is the Royal Standard presented to the original Queen Elizabeth by Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother when she named the ship back in 1938.
In addition to the featured characteristics of the Cunard tradition the Queen Elizabeth incorporates new features. Probably the most outstanding addition is the Verandah restaurant. This fine dining venue, strongly focused on the French cuisine, offers a luxury dining experience at affordable prices.
In conclusion the vessel offers an interesting blend of historical and traditional features typical of the Cunard brand with the comfort and the attractions that you would expect from a newly built state-of-the-art cruise liner.
